My second entry for Trees-With-character Traditional Trees Contest fav.me/d7cbl87
From sketching to completion, this one took at least six weeks due to an especially busy springtime. For a long time it felt like the Painting That Wouldn't End. And in the final stretch it was painted as the Slide Fire raged here in northern Arizona. The Slide Fire burned a large portion of Oak Creek Canyon, one of the most beautiful and scenic places in Arizona, and left me horrified by its destruction. I've wanted to paint another tree for a long time, and it felt strangely fitting to be painting this particular image as the Slide Fire burned.

I love the way you have painted the bark on this. I was looking at it thinking it would make a great bonsai - then I looked at the name and had to laugh - my own bonsai is a juniper!!
